The National Flood Hazard Maps have been created for 3 sources of flooding, namely, Flooding from Rivers; Flooding from the Sea The Wales Flood Map will bring all together all of our flood and coastal risk mapping in one place, starting with the new Flood Risk Assessment for Wales (FRAW). A Flood Consequence Assessment report is required for developments in flood … For the first time, this will show flood risk from all sources and incorporate coastal and asset information. More than one in six properties is at risk of flooding in Wales, while large undeveloped areas are also modelled to flood, meaning Flood Consequence Assessments are becoming a critical part of planning applications. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) released the Flood Risk Assessment Wales (FRAW) map in October 2020 alongside Welsh Government’s launch of the National Strategy for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management. Early involvement of a hydrologist is key, to avoid project risk. In Wales the requirements for a Flood Consequence Assessment are set out in the Planning Policy Wales Technical Advice Note 15: Development and Flood Risk (TAN 15) July 2004 which sets out the Welsh Assembly Government policies on different aspects of land use planning in Wales. We’ve realised that we’ve come to take for granted that the ethics and principles on which our business was founded are always understood by our clients, contacts and colleagues. A map of Wales will be presented, which also shows the main rivers as a default. The National Flood Risk Maps have been created for 3 sources of flooding, namely, Flooding from Rivers; Flooding from the Sea The National Strategy for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management in Wales The National Strategy for FCERM in Wales herein referred to in this environmental report as ‘the Strategy’ aims to reduce the risks to people and communities from flooding and coastal erosion. This will give an indication on the likelihood of a Flood Risk Assessment being required to accompany a Planning Application for development. How to access the tools and manoeuvre around the map will be described in the following sections. National Flood Hazard Maps. At this stage no tools are datasets are available to use. Diagram 1 – Landing page for Flood risk map. Use the Flood Risk Assessment Wales map to see flooding that could occur from reservoirs. The National Flood Risk Maps are based on generalised modelling created as part of Flood Risk Assessment Wales (FRAW) and published as part of Cycle 2 of the Flood Risk Regulations (2009). The Flood Risk Assessment Wales (FRAW) together with the National Receptor Database (NRD) are used to determine the number of properties (residential and non-residential) at risk of flooding from rivers and sea in Wales. FRAW is the new flood map for the general public who want to understand if where they live, work or visit is at flood risk. The shading on the map shows the worst-case scenario for the area that could be flooded if a large reservoir were to fail and release the water it holds. The National Flood Risk Maps are based on generalised modelling created as part of Flood Risk Assessment Wales (FRAW) and published as part of Cycle 2 of the Flood Risk Regulations (2009).
